In the dual events
organized by the Gotham City Billiards in Brooklyn on March 29-30, Amateur
Chris Derewonski and Open/Pro Jayson Shaw emerged as the champions with a
victory over Mike Harrington and Jorge Rodriguez respectively.
The road to the finals for
all the four finalists was fiercely competitive as Jorge Rodriguez progressed
with a 7-4 win over Earl Strickland in the semis and Jayson claimed his
position in the finals beating the tour director Tony Robles 7-2. However,
Derewonski had a pretty tidy race to the finals with straight wins over
Harrington and Brooke Meyer.
In an event with several
potential names from open and professional groups, the rivalry among the names
like Emily Duddy, Brian Russell, Robles, Ramkissoon, Astashen and Meyer was
impressive to say the least.
